The Warrnambool Motorcycle Club was formed in 1935. At the clubs first AGM there were 25 members which grew to 90 members pre war. After the war, the club was reformed in March 1948 by 9 people, which soon grew to 63 and has steadily kept increasing with the Club Membership total for 2019 being in excess of 200 members. As the Club didn’t have a set property to race at they often raced at Tower Hill in Koroit and District racecourses.
On the 23rd of September 1968 the club purchased the property at Lake Gillear which is where we still race today. It took a lot of hard work and fundraising but the Motorcycle Club soon owned the land.
1969 - permission was granted and working bees started on a toilet block.
1970 - original lap scoring tower was built and was used until as recently as 2010.
1972 - the canteen was built which has since also been upgraded and relocated.
1995 - the big cliff next to the main straight was pulled over and levelled out giving a great spectators view of the track.
1999 - the machinery shed was erected so all of our machinery could be properly housed.
2001 - the canteen/clubrooms as we now know were built.
2007 - showers installed in machinery shed.
2008 - undercover marshalling area built.
2009 - start grid was increased to accommodate 40 bikes. 1000 trees were planted in the Gully.
2010 - new track modifications and new lap scoring tower
2014 - significant changes to track layout
2018 - A section of land to the south of the track was refurbished to accommodate a dedicated 50 / beginners track
2019 - New fence erected around the drain allowing the club to utilise the 50 track safely, aswell as a fence erected along the top of the spectating hill
2020 - Significant track changes and upgrades
We are truly an independent club and are one of only two clubs in Victoria that have an open key policy which enables members access to the track (excluding when the track is closed for other events or maintenance).
